Who can benefit from weighted blankets? (Part 2)

Its part 2 of our highly anticipated blog detailing who can benefit from using weighted blankets (I hope you’re excited as we are!). In this blog, I am going to cover a few more conditions and explain how weighted blankets can bring comfort and security to those suffering from physical and mental health conditions. Hopefully it will help you when making the decision to invest in a weighted blanket for yourself or someone you care for 🙂

Alzheimers Disease

Alzheimers is extremely difficult for the individual experiencing it and their family. The individual becomes repetitive, forgets to complete basic tasks and can have trouble naming objects and people. This can lead to mood swings, confusion and stress. As it progresses, insomnia becomes an issue as the wake frequently and can wonder during the night. People with Alzheimers disease can benefit from the deep touch therapy that comes from a weighted blanket. They can help the user work towards a full nights sleep without additional medication.

Cancer and Chemo Anxiety

Anyone going through cancer experiences extreme anxiety – theres tests, waiting for results, going through treatment and then wondering if it is going to return. This constant worrying and anxiety can lead to sleeplessness, nausea and can affect your entire life. A weighted blanket can help relax your mind and body. The gentle pressure from the blanket can help soothe aches and pains and a weighted lap pad can be taken to appointments to help deal with the anxiety.

Downs Syndrome

Downs Syndrome is a genetic condition that causes growth and cognitive impairments that can be improved through a variety of treatments. While everyone develops differently, people with Downs Syndrome are at risk of developmental disorders such as autism, ADHD and depression. Learning independence and socialisation can be physically and emotionally draining, even when well supported. Using a weighted blanket can help to relax the body and mind, deep pressure therapy will help relieve physical aches and pains and help maintain an overall sense of wellness.

Restless Leg Syndrome

Restless Leg Syndrome causes uncomfortable sensations, not only in the legs, but also the abdomen and arms. This causes major disruption to sleep. One of the treatments for Restless Leg Syndrome is massage and relaxation techniques before bed – a weighted blanket mimics the effects of a massage. The blanket can be used all over the body or locally on an area of particular discomfort.

Our blankets are all custom made to the users needs – the weight is distributed evenly throughout the blanket and the length and width can be tailored to the individuals own proportions. Our lap pads are especially good for those who need to attend many appointments as they are easily transported. The majority of our pattern designs are geared towards children, but we make custom blankets to your own requirements – just contact us and we will be more than happy to help 🙂
